Lucienne Day:
Designer Biography Poster
This poster received an Honorable Mention at St. Louis Community College’s Annual Juried Art and Design Exhibition for 2024. The award was presented by Ben Franklin, Studio Director at Gray Design.
As part of my Graphic Design 1 class, we were assigned to research a designer and create a poster as if they were giving a talk on campus. I chose Lucienne Day, renowned for her mid-century modern fabric patterns.
The biggest challenge in designing the poster was finding a way to showcase her fabric effectively. I drew inspiration from the quilt hangers my grandma uses, which allowed the design to lay flat in a curtain-like display. I incorporated multiple fabric patterns from different stages of her career to illustrate her growth as a designer and instead of leaving the space behind the “curtains” empty, I used it to provide information about the design, adding depth and context to the composition.
