What began as a simple assignment to design a poster for the play Murder at The Howard Johnson evolved into me creating the program for the show. While researching Howard Johnson hotels, I discovered one of their vintage restaurant hat menus and chose to use its shape as the foundation for my poster.
The director had emphasized a bold, over-the-top 1970s aesthetic, even suggesting “puke green” as a color, and the hat shape perfectly aligned with that vision. Since our campus has a laser cutter, we were able to produce the hats to size, complete with functional slits.
